Tweet Blaming employees for poor performance and low productivity is easy, but taking responsibility for your own role is more likely to get positive results. Take these steps to keep your workforce active and engaged at all times:
• Prioritize tasks. Be sure employees know which tasks are vital to your organization’s success and which are secondary. If they’re confused, they may waste time on nonessential work.
• Empower employees. Let employees know exactly what decisions they’re authorized to make so they don’t delay needed action or continually pester you for assistance. Let them know you expect them to think for themselves.
• Analyze procedures. Explain your requirements thoroughly so employees clearly know what’s expected of them. Review rules and processes regularly to make sure they’re not getting in the way of employees’ work.
• Train employees. Hire the best people you can and then give them the training they need to do their jobs effectively. Provide them with the resources they need (equipment, support, etc.) so they’re able to perform at their best.
• Collaborate with workers. Don’t just tell employees what to do—ask for their opinions and ideas, and support them in trying new things. A spirit of teamwork shows employees you trust them, which will enhance their confidence and performance.
